Healthy Rainbow Fruit Platter with Yogurt Dip
This simple rainbow fruit tray with yogurt dip is one of my go-to appetizers for any celebration! The colors immediately catch your eye, and the bright, fresh flavors of the fruit are so refreshingly delicious.
It’s always so much fun to see how much everyone oohs and ahhs over it, too! You’ll be pleased to know it’s also so easy to make and the best part? You can even make it the day before!
Why We Love This Rainbow Fruit Board
- Great for entertaining: This beautiful display deserves a crowd, don’t you think? This is a great option for a birthday party, especially for someone who loves rainbows or lots of color. It’s also great for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration (you can even add some gold at the end of the rainbow!), Easter, Mother’s Day, summer gatherings, and more. We serve it all year!
- Family-friendly: Everyone enjoys this fruit rainbow, but it’s especially popular with kids! The bright colors of the fruit draw them in right away, and they love sweet flavors. It’s so nice to have an appetizer the whole family will enjoy!
- So healthy: We’ve all heard that you should “eat the rainbow,” and it’s true! The different colors typically come from the antioxidants, which are also what makes them very nutrient-dense. For example, strawberries and blueberries get their color from anthocyanins, which is also the main antioxidant that makes them great for the brain and heart. Kiwi contains carotenoids, which have health promoting properties that can help protect against heart disease. This is such a fun way to enjoy the colors of the rainbow and get a big nutritional boost at the same time.

How to Make a Fruit Rainbow – Step-by-Step Instructions
- Get out a large circular tray or round platter. Remove the stems from the strawberries and slice. At the top of the plate, arrange the strawberries in a narrow strip in the shape of a rainbow, overlapping them to fill in any gaps.
- Next, cut the bottom and top of each of the mandarin oranges. Slice off the skin so that the flesh of the orange is revealed. Cut each of the oranges into circular slices. Arrange in a row beneath the strip of strawberries.
- Arrange the diced pineapple in a strip below the mandarin orange slices.
- Peel the kiwis and cut into circular slices. Cut each circular slice in half and arrange in a strip beneath the diced pineapple.
- Arrange the blueberries in a curved strip just below the kiwi slices.
- Cut the grapes in half and arrange in a curved strip below the blueberries to resemble a rainbow.
- Prepare a batch of the yogurt fruit dip and divide into two small bowls. Place each bowl at the bottom of each side of the fruit rainbow to resemble clouds. Serve or place in the fridge until ready to serve.

Recipe FAQs
Yes! You can make the entire rainbow fruit platter with yogurt dip the day before, wrap it in plastic wrap, and serve it right when you need it. This makes it a great timesaver for when you’re entertaining! The dip can be made two days in advance, too!
There are so many delicious options! You’ll need at least six fruits that are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or purple. I like to use strawberries, mandarin oranges, pineapple, kiwi, blueberries, and purple or red grapes. There are so many more options, though! Feel free to use your favorite fruits or whatever you’re able to find in season at the grocery store.
That really depends on the quality of the fruit tray, the prices of your local grocery store, and the amount of fruit you want to serve. In general, you may spend around the same amount buying all of the different fruits, but you’ll have much more fruit than what you get in those plastic trays. Plus, it’s so much fresher and more flavorful!
Storage Guidelines
Sliced fruits should only sit out at room temperature for a maximum of 2 hours. To keep the fruit cool for longer, use a chilled platter or rest your tray on ice packs.
I recommend making this rainbow snack tray either the day of or up to 1 day before you need it. Wrap any leftovers really well with plastic wrap or store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Recipe Variations
- Use skewers. For an easy handheld snack, arrange the fruit in rainbow order on bamboo skewers, then line them up in an arch. Great for a party!
- Decorate for St. Patrick’s Day: Arrange the rainbow on a wooden cutting board and add a bowl of yogurt dip at the bottom of one side and a little pop of chocolate coins on the other. Perfect for your St Patrick’s Day celebration!
- Switch up the fruit: Although this fruit rainbow tray is wonderful with this particular variety of fruits, you can easily adjust it based on the produce available at your local grocery store. Use small watermelon slices, green grapes, green apples, pomegranate seeds, raspberries, blackberries, or any other fresh fruit to fill out your board. They’ll all work great!
