How much fun is this Rainbow Fruit Tray with Orange Honey Greek Yogurt Dip? It makes for a vibrant and healthy snack or appetizer that is perfect for feeding a crowd! {Gluten-free & no refined sugar}
There’s something about food that mimics the colours of the rainbow that lights me up inside. It just looks so vibrant and happy.
And really, who doesn’t want to eat happy food?
And then you pair it along with a creamy and citrusy dip? It’s pretty much utter bliss.
Those were my feelings towards this Rainbow Fruit Tray that I made recently for a family gathering. At first I was just going to make just a regular fruit tray, but then I thought to myself, how can I transform this tray into a work of art?
And that’s when this tray came to life.
Mind blowing, I know ;)
But a fruit tray isn’t much fun without a dip, so that’s when this Orange Honey Greek Yogurt Dip was born. I wanted something light and refreshing to pair with the sweet, colourful and juicy fruit on the tray.
As an added bonus, it also serves as a great source of protein and calcium, which makes for the perfect filling snack or appetizer when paired with the fibre-rich fruit.
What type of fruit should I use for the Rainbow Fruit Tray?
Now this is the fun part. You can really use any fruits that mimic the colours of the rainbow. Let’s do some brainstorming.
Red: Strawberries, raspberries, watermelon
Orange: Oranges, cantaloupe, peaches, apricots, plums
Yellow: Pineapple, banana, mango
Green: Kiwi, honey melon, green grapes
Blue: Blueberries
Purple: Red grapes, blackberries
Don’t you feel like you’re in kindergarten all over again? ;)
BUT it’s not just about the fruit you choose. It’s also about the way in which you cut and arrange the fruit that makes the difference. You could either plop the whole strawberry on the tray, or you can slice it and carefully arrange it so that you can see the pretty design on the inside.
Similarly, for the oranges, you could stick some slices on the tray OR you can carefully cut the top and bottom off along with the peel and cut the oranges into circles. You could of course, cut them into slices or dice them as well, but I found that the different cuts added some texture to the tray.
What kind of platter should I use for the Rainbow Fruit Tray?
So first off, I would recommend going with a plain white platter if possible. I found that a large white platter with a nice border worked really nicely to showcase all of the fruits’ colours without getting distracted by other colourful patterns on the background.
Also, if you’re making this tray for Easter, an oval shaped platter works perfectly since it resembles an easter egg.
Cute, eh?
If you don’t own an oval tray, you could always use a rectangular tray as well. It’s totally up to you!
How far in advance can I make the Rainbow Fruit Tray and Orange Honey Greek Yogurt Dip?
If you have a special gathering that you’re attending or you’re hosting a get together at your house, sometimes it’s nice to get things prepared in advance. That way, you’re not hustling at the last minute trying to get it all done. We’ve ALL been there.
That’s what’s great about this rainbow fruit tray and yogurt dip. You can make it a day in advance and it holds up really well. I just recommend covering it with saran wrap and storing it in the fridge.
Similarly, you can also make the yogurt dip a day or two in advance. I actually find that it tastes better when made before hand because all of the flavours have a chance to come together.
If it’s been sitting for a while, I recommend giving it a good stir to blend all of the flavours back up again.
And then you’re ready to serve!
Healthy, pretty and easy!
