Why You Should Serve Fruit for Christmas
I know we normally associate Christmas with lots of decadence and indulgence, and yes, that is part of it! But, it’s also precisely why I try to serve as many fresh fruits and vegetables as I possibly can.
As a Registered Dietitian, I know just how much it can help to incorporate that extra produce on a daily basis.
Not only will it make you feel better, the extra antioxidants, nutrients, hydration, and fiber can help support your digestion, regulate your blood sugar, and keep your immune system strong (especially handy during cold and flu season).
It’s also great for kids! As a parent of two myself, I know exactly how tricky it can be to get kids to eat well during the holidays and offering lots of fresh fruit makes it so much easier.
They see those jewel tones and can’t help but grab a strawberry or a kiwi off the platter.
Dietitian-Approved Christmas Fruit Ideas
Whether you want to serve fruit as an appetizer, side dish, or dessert, I hope these options will provide some inspiration for the holiday season!
Christmas Wreath Fruit Platter
The red and green fruits in this platter instantly give you that holiday aesthetic, and there’s a perfect mix of sweet and tart.

Fruit Christmas Tree
This isn’t just an appetizer – it’s truly a centerpiece! It’s one of those recipes that looks complicated but is actually quite straightforward to assemble.

Christmas Fruit Salad
To make this salad extra delicious, I like to coat it all with a citrus dressing that makes the flavors pop!

Christmas Wreath Salad
We don’t always think of just how much abundance there is in the winter, but this is a great time to be a fruit lover.
This salad has two of the season’s finest – pomegranates and pears – for plenty of sweetness and color.

Christmas Tree Charcuterie Board
Charcuterie boards may be all about the meat, but I love to incorporate a range of different options including lots of produce.
Try adding raspberries, pomegranates, and sparkling cranberries for festive pops of red.

Watermelon Christmas Trees
My kids absolutely love making these with me! All you need is some sliced watermelon and yogurt to make the swirls.

Strawberry Penguins
You’ve had a chocolate covered strawberry, but what about a penguin?! The candy eyes take them over the top and make them extra kid-friendly.

Spiced Pomegranate Sparkler
Fresh pomegranate juice gives this drink its ruby-red hue and a hearty dose of antioxidants (and flavor).

Green Apple Christmas Tree
Think of this as a holiday snack tray for kids. Let them help assemble their “trees” and they’ll be even more likely to eat it!

Santa Pancakes
These Santa pancakes are a fantastic way to serve lots of fresh berries and bananas and start the day off right.

Christmas Fruit Wreath
This is similar to the wreath platter above, but on a smaller scale perfect for little fingers.
The kiwis look so beautiful arranged like this and are a fantastic source of vitamins C and K, potassium, and fiber – all especially important this time of year!

Banana Snowmen
Wouldn’t these fruit skewers make a great edible craft for a holiday party or brunch? Set up a bunch of each ingredient and let them make their own. They’ll love it!

Christmas Wreath Charcuterie Board
I usually like to garnish my holiday charcuterie boards with grapes, raspberries, and cranberries for the color, but those are just some of the options.
Feel free to add fresh apple or pear, sliced persimmon, or peeled mandarin oranges for extra color.

Non-Alcoholic Christmas Punch

Most holiday drinks are over-the-top sweet, but not this one! Choose unsweetened apple juice and low-sugar cranberry cocktail to keep the sugar content low.
Sparkling Cranberries

You’d be surprised to know that this is one of the only recipes on the blog with sugar! It’s essential to get that sparkle on those cranberries to offset their tartness.
Chocolate Stuffed Raspberries

Stick a chocolate chip inside of a raspberry and you have an instant treat. We like to have these out as a healthier holiday appetizer, but kids enjoy them as a dessert, too!
