Why We Love this Strawberry Basil Mocktail
- Make ahead: This is a great make ahead drink. It’s made with a few simple ingredients and only takes about 10 minutes to whip up a batch.
- Healthier option: Made with fresh sweet strawberries, lime juice, soda water and no simple syrup or refined sugar, this non alcoholic spritzer is a delicious nutrient-packed way to incorporate some extra goodness into your day. As a bonus, by making your own drink you can control the sugar content by adding more or less sweetener, which is generally not possible with store-bought beverages.
- Perfect for entertaining: This is a great pitcher mocktail and the recipe can easily be doubled if you’re hosting. It’s such a delicious beverage option for a bridal or baby shower and those summer cookouts!
Ingredient Notes
- Strawberries: Strawberries are packed with vitamins, fiber and antioxidants and add a wonderful flavor, sweetness and color to this mocktail. Fresh strawberries are best for the purpose of this drink, but you could also sub in frozen if that’s all that you have on hand.
- Lime Juice: Fresh lime juice adds a great zing that balances out the sweetness of this strawberry drink. Use lots of lime juice for the best flavor.
- Sweetener: I use honey to naturally sweeten this drink and give it a rounder flavor. Maple syrup would also work, or you could sub in stevia if you want a lower sugar option.
- Carbonated water: Sparkling water adds a nice fizz to this drink. I typically use club soda or Perrier. You could also use tonic water, which would be a great flavor addition.
- Garnishes: This beverage is finished with extra strawberries and basil leaves. Not only do they look pretty, but they add a great aroma before you take your first sip. You could also garnish with other fresh berries or mint to switch up the flavors.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Puree one cup of strawberries with the lime juice and honey in a regular blender or mini blender.
- In a large pitcher, combine the Perrier water and strawberry mixture and mix very well to incorporate all the flavours.
- Add fresh basil leaves and the remaining half cup of sliced strawberries and place in fridge for at least 20 minutes to allow flavors to combine.
- When ready to serve, add desired number of ice cubes to each glass.
- Give the mixture another good stir. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired. Serve cold in a large glass with lime slices, if desired.

Recipe Tips for the Best Mocktail
- For the sweetener: I used about 3-4 tablespoons of honey, but you can sub in your desired sweetener. Stevia can also be used if you wish to reduce the amount of added sugar. If you opt for honey or another liquid sweetener, I recommend starting with three tablespoons, tasting the drink and then adding more if desired to suit your personal taste preferences.
- Allow drink to sit: I highly recommend letting this spritzer sit in the fridge for about half an hour to allow the flavors to intensify before serving.
- If you do allow it to sit, add the ice cubes to each individual glass right before serving to prevent the mixture from becoming too diluted. I also recommend giving it a really good stir before drinking, since the honey tends to drift to the bottom of the jug.
- To make a boozy strawberry slushy: Use frozen strawberries instead of fresh and add desired alcohol.
- To get more juice out of your limes: Roll and press the limes on a hard surface prior to slicing in half. This can help soften the flesh and make it easier to release the juices when you squeeze the limes. If the limes are really hard, you can also microwave them for 15 seconds to soften the rind and flesh, making them easier to juice.
Storage Guidelines
Store this beverage in the fridge for up to two days. If storing longer than that, you may wish to add the fresh strawberries and basil just before serving to keep them as fresh as possible.
If you plan on making this beverage really far in advance, you may want to add half of the fizzy water, and then top it up before serving so that it’s still bubbly when you serve it.
Recipe FAQs
A mocktail is a non-alcoholic or virgin cocktail. You still get the visual pizzaz and grown up flavors of a classic cocktail, but without the added alcohol. It’s the perfect drink option for non or light drinkers, and you definitely won’t feel like you’re missing out.
Yes of course! If you like your drinks a little more boozy, you can easily adapt this strawberry mocktail. You can add in a spirit like gin or vodka, or try adding in a couple of cups of white wine for a lighter alcoholic version.
Yes! I love making this drink with strawberries, but you can easily swap them for other fruit. Mango, raspberries and blackberries are all great choices.

Recipe Variations
- Mix in other fresh fruit: To give this beverage a different fruity spin, try blending the strawberries with watermelon, peach or mango.
- Use different fresh herbs: For the herb garnish, try fresh mint leaves, rosemary or thyme as a substitute for basil. A strawberry mint mocktail sounds heavenly on those hot summer days!
- For a lemony twist: Instead of lime, use lemon juice or some lemonade for a strawberry lemonade mocktail.
- Change the seltzer water: Consider using lime seltzer or playing around with other flavored seltzer waters! Strawberry grapefruit would be quite nice too.
- Try a different liquid: If you don’t mind consuming a little extra sugar, use a ginger beer for a really crisp, refreshing drink.
