- Add lots of flavor without any added sugar or chemical flavorings
- You can absorb the health benefits of the fresh ingredients in every sip
- You just need 4 simple ingredients and a little time to make this healthy drink
Ingredient Notes
- Plain water: The base of the beverage.
- Lemon slices: It’s best to wash the lemons really well before slicing to remove any dirt or germs.
- English cucumber: English cucumbers are a great option and add that iconic cucumber flavor, which is perfect for this lemon cucumber mint water.
- Fresh mint leaves: For a cooling sensation.
- Ice cubes (if desired)
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add the mint leaves and use a wooden spoon to muddle them in the bottom of a large pitcher to help release the oils and natural flavor. Pour water into the pitcher pitcher.
- Next, add the lemon slices and cucumber slices to the water. Give the mixture a good stir. Place pitcher in the fridge for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to infuse into the water. The water tends to taste best after being infused for about 4-5 hours. Serve in glasses with ice cubes if desired.

Recipe Tips:
- This infused water also tastes really refreshing with a splash of carbonated water in each glass as well.
- Be sure to drink this water the day of making it since it will develop a bitter flavor from the lemon rind if left to sit too long. Alternatively, you can remove the cucumber, lemon and mint after the water has fully infused and then store the remaining infused water in the fridge.
Does this water help you to detox?
No! Many individuals promote infused water as a beneficial “detox water” or weight loss aid, but these claims lack scientific support. Our bodies possess their own inherent detoxification mechanisms, primarily the liver and kidneys. Focus on hydrating your body on a daily basis and allow it to carry out its natural processes.
Choose to drink this infused water recipe because you enjoy the taste or as a means to fulfill your hydration needs, rather than relying on unfounded claims that it can help detoxify your body or cure medical conditions requiring proper medical treatment.
Recipe FAQs
For the best flavor, you’ll want to infuse the ingredients together for at least 2 hours, but ideally 4-5. This will allow the flavors of the ingredients to infuse in the water and add their flavor.
If you want to serve this lemon water with cucumber and mint the next day, you can certainly prepare it the night before! The water should be kept in the fridge since there are raw ingredients that can grow mold over time. Just prepare everything like normal, then stick the jug in the fridge until you need it. If you won’t be able to drink it within 24 hours, I recommend straining out the lemon, mint, and cucumber to keep the flavor from changing.
If you’ve ever seen bartenders make a mojito, you’ve probably seen them start by muddling the mint with a masher at the bottom of the container. The same technique works great here, too! It’s best to crush the mint to release the flavor oils, and you can easily do this by smashing it with a wooden spoon at the bottom of your jar or pitcher.
After infusing, the fresh ingredients start to become soft, and the flavor begins to break down. For the best experience, enjoy the lemon cucumber water within the first 24 hours.
Storage Guidelines
You can infuse the water at room temperature for several hours, but it should be stored in the fridge to maintain freshness and prevent the growth of mold.
It’s best to consume within 24 hours. After that, you may find that the flavor starts to break down.
Serving Suggestions
This refreshing beverage is the ultimate thirst-quencher on a hot day, making it to the perfect choice to pair with your summer barbecue favorites like Grilled BBQ Boneless Chicken Thighs or this Blueberry Walnut Salad.
It’s also luxurious enough to serve at your next brunch or party! Pair this “spa water” with these Banana Oatmeal Waffles or Crustless Asparagus Quiche for a wonderful Mother’s Day brunch or Easter breakfast.
Recipe Variations
- Change the citrus: Grapefruit or lime slices can be a great alternative to sliced lemon. You can also squeeze in some extra lemon juice or lime juice for a stronger flavor.
- Use different cucumbers: You can use any type of cucumbers you’d like, including lemon cucumbers! They have a mild flavor that’s perfect for this cucumber lemon water.
- Add other fruits: Depending on your preferences, you can easily adjust the flavor of this flavored water with your favorite fresh fruit! Add freshly sliced strawberries or pineapples for a bright, sunny flavor or some watermelon for extra refreshment.
