Benefits of Cottage Cheese for Breakfast
As a Registered Dietitian, I know just how important it is to start the day with a protein-packed meal. Breakfast sets the tone for the whole day, and getting enough protein at breakfast can help you feel more energized, satisfied, and ready to tackle whatever comes your way.
One of the biggest parts of a high protein breakfast it that it keeps you full for hour and actually helps curb those pesky cravings.
Cottage cheese is an amazing option since one cup of cottage cheese contains a whopping 30g of protein! Plus, it’s naturally light on calories, fat, and carbs, making it an easy, no-fuss addition to any meal.
And let’s talk about the versatility! You can eat it on its own – straight out of the container – or blended or baked into your favorite breakfast recipes. The rich, fluffy texture and cream cheese-like flavor makes it way more fun than other options. We even prefer it over Greek yogurt!
No matter how you prepare it, you really can’t go wrong!

What is the best type of cottage cheese?
That really depends on your macros. All types of cottage cheese have a high protein content with low-fat cottage cheese typically being the highest.
- Fat-free cottage cheese can work but the lower fat content can cause your recipes to end up not quite as rich and creamy.
- Full-fat cottage cheese is higher in fat and calories, which you’ll want to keep in mind. It is ideal for baking though as that extra fat can make your cottage cheese muffins or banana bread soft and tender!
In most situations, I recommend using low-fat cottage cheese. It’s still rich and creamy when whipped, yet lower in calories and fat.
