Why Make this Sausage Sheet Pan Dinner
- Quick to prep: It seriously only takes about 5 minutes to prep this meal and then into the oven it goes.
- Simple ingredients: This recipe requires only a few basic ingredients, most of which you probably already have on hand.
- Easy clean up: Because this recipe is made on a sheet pan, the clean up is minimal. Isn’t that the best type of meal?
- Healthy: This makes a great balanced meal, consisting of protein, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats and nutrient-rich vegetables!
Ingredient Notes
- Sausage: I use Italian sausage for this dish since we like the flavour, but you can use whatever sausage you like. Turkey or chicken sausages work well too!
- Sweet potatoes: Rich in beta carotene, vitamin C, B6, potassium and fibre. You can also sub in butternut squash if desired.
- Broccoli: Broccoli is such a great veggie to include in your diet as it’s a good source of fibre, vitamin C, vitamin K, iron, and potassium. Feel free to add some other vegetables in addition to the broccoli if you want more colour and diversity in your meal.
- Oil: For drizzling over the sausage and veggies to help them get crispy on the outside. I like to use olive oil, but canola will work well too.
- Seasonings: Garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper are used to flavour up this recipe. Feel free to add more or less seasoning depending on your personal taste preferences.
Step by Step Instructions
-
Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees F.
-
Add the sliced sausage, chopped broccoli and sweet potato to a large baking sheet (you’ll probably need two).
- Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with the garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Season with salt and pepper.
- Toss sausage and veggies with your hands until they are fully coated with olive oil and spices.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until sweet potato is tender, flipping halfway through. Serve warm.
Sausage and Vegetable Bake Recipe Tips
- Make sure that the sweet potato is diced small enough. If the chunks are too big, they will require longer cooking time.
- Slice the sausage when it’s still partially frozen to make it easier to cut. If the sausage is too soft, the sausage may start to come out of the casing when you’re cutting it into pieces. It’s much easier to cut when it’s firm. You can also leave the sausages whole if short on time.
- You can purchase pre-chopped broccoli florets and sweet potato to save time chopping if tight on time.
- If I’m in a rush, sometimes I don’t even measure out the olive oil and spices; just sprinkle it on until the sausage and veggies are well coated.
