These 4-ingredient Pumpkin Pie Pops are great for babies who are just starting on solids or for children (or adults) looking for a healthier treat. These mini pops provide that pumpkin pie flavour with lots of nutrients and no added sugar! With only four ingredients, they’re easy to make and are a great healthy and refreshing treat for the whole family! {Gluten-free & vegetarian}
Our baby Leo is now 7 and a half months old and is kind of going through this awkward phase where we think he’s teething but we’re not 100% sure if he’s ACTUALLY teething.
Really, this awkward phase has been going on ever since he was born, because let’s face it, as new parents, we really don’t know what the heck is going on.
Quite frankly, based on the signs they say you should watch out for (i.e. fussiness, drooling, putting things in mouth, etc.), I swore he started teething when he was only a few weeks old. But lo and behold, seven months later, still no teeth have popped through.
I’ve mentioned in other posts that we’ve been trying out the baby-led weaning method with him and overall it’s been going great.
If I’ve learned one thing throughout this process, it’s that this kid LOVES to eat and is perfectly content with mommy trying out new recipes on him.
I’ll be honest though, because he doesn’t have teeth yet, it still makes me nervous to give him something like a chicken thigh or piece of steak. Even though his gums are strong and I’m sure he’d plough through it no prob, I just can’t quite bring myself to do it.
Which is why we’ve been primarily sticking to foods that are softer and will easily dissolve in his mouth if it sits there long enough. We’ve mostly been giving him foods in cup, muffin or strip form like these:
mini turkey apple meatloaf muffins
spinach zucchini frittata fingers
Among lots of other fun recipes as well!
Since it’s been so hot these days and we’re pretty sure he’s teething, I thought it would be fun to experiment with giving him a little baby popsicle to help cool him off and soothe his gums.
Honestly, I also just wanted to see what he would do with the popsicle.
Nothing wrong with a little free entertainment, right? ;)
I had purchased some of these mini ice pop molds a few months ago and was just waiting for Leo to be old enough to hold the ice pops himself. Since he’s gotten so good with his hands lately and is pretty much sitting up on his own, I thought that now would be the perfect time to give him his first baby popsicle.
I’ve been wanting to try giving him pumpkin since it’s loaded with vitamin C and A. And let’s be honest here. I’ve also been getting a tad excited that pumpkin season is right around the corner!
So I whipped together some of these 4-Ingredient Pumpkin Pie Pops.
I had purchased this Baby-Led Feeding book and there were a few recipes for baby popsicles in there, so this book is where I originally got my inspiration from for these pumpkin pie pops.
There’s lots of cute and healthy ideas in this book for babies just starting on solids or even meals for the whole family!
Now most popsicles are loaded with sugar and other not so healthy ingredients, but what I love about these little pumpkin pie pops is that there’s only four simple ingredients and no added sugar since it’s naturally sweetened with banana.
It can also be a good way to sneak some extra calcium into babies or young children as well. You can use any type of milk or milk alternative, although I recommend using full-fat wherever possible (especially for young babies) to keep the calorie and fat content higher which is important for their little growing bodies.
Plus, it’s a great way to expose baby to those pumpkin pie flavours without them doing a face plant into a slice of sugar-laden pumpkin pie ;)
It turns out that Leo had a blast eating/playing with these pumpkin pie pops. Sometimes the wrong end of the ice pop ended up in his mouth, but that was all part of the fun ;)
