Looking for some healthy freezer meal ideas? Here are ten fit freezer meal recipes that you can make whether you’re about to give birth and need some ready-made meals or just looking to do some meal prepping for a more fit and healthy lifestyle!
As I mentioned in my post 10 Secrets for Successfully Preparing Freezer Meals Before Giving Birth, at this time last year, I was scrounging around trying to come up with a whole slew of healthy meals that I could freeze to prepare for that period for after our baby was born.
I knew that I was going to be EXHAUSTED and not in the mood for cooking, especially after giving birth AND trying to navigate life with a newborn. Not an easy task.
I also knew that I didn’t want to rely on processed convenience food and takeout since A, it’s not all that good for you and B, I had a goal of getting back in shape fairly soon after pregnancy.
So the solution in my mind was to get prepared AHEAD of time to take some of that pressure off once baby arrived. Despite waddling around with my beach ball belly and feeling like I was lugging around a tonne of bricks, I made a vow to myself that I would make at least ten healthy freezer-friendly recipes that could be divided into 40-50 meals before the baby was born.
It was a bit of an ambitious goal, I will admit. Some might say a little crazy, but with a little planning and preparation, it was totally doable (with a few tips which you can check out here).
The following recipes are some freezer meals ideas that you can prepare in the months leading up to giving birth so that you can have family-friendly ready-made meals available post-baby.
These are also perfect if you’re not having a baby and simply looking to do some advanced meal prep to reduce the stress of cooking during those crazy busy weeks, which we ALL have from time to time!

Healthy Freezer Meal Ideas
This is the ultimate definition of comfort food. A nice thick and creamy chili that’s big on flavour and a great source of protein and fibre to keep those energy levels up!
2. Sausage, Kale and White Bean Soup
I love this soup as a freezer meal since it contains all of the fixings of a healthy balanced meal in one pot, AND includes those oh-so-nutritious dark green leafy vegetables. Simply thaw it out and dinner is served!
3. Pulled BBQ Chicken Sandwiches
When it comes to freezer meal prep, the crock pot will be your new best friend. Take this Pulled BBQ chicken for example. Throw the chicken breasts and sauce ingredients in the crockpot and let it do the work for you! Serve it on a whole-grain bun, in a wrap or on brown rice along with a side of veggies for a complete meal!
If you’re a fan of BBQ chicken, you’ll also love this Pulled BBQ Beef. It’s so easy to make. Once again, throw all of the ingredients in the crockpot and savour that delicious aroma all day long.
5. Lean Chicken Meatloaf Muffins
Making food in muffin tins is one of my favourite ways to produce easily freezable, perfectly portioned meals. Place the chicken meatloaf mixture evenly into a muffin tin and once they’re all cooked up, freeze in a ziplock bag for a easy and lean source of protein. Serve along with sweet potato fries or rice and a side of veg for a balanced meal.
Nothing screams warm and cozy like a pot of chili. What’s different about this chili, however, is the addition of the quinoa. It makes the chili thick, fluffy and super filling. As an added bonus, it can all be cooked in one pot in less than 30 minutes, so it makes for a super fast and convenient freezer meal.
If you’re looking for a meatless meal, this lemon lentil soup is the way to go! With hints of lemony flavour in every bite, it makes for one zesty, refreshing and flavourful soup!
8. Roasted Garlic Chicken Burgers
One of my favourite quick and easy meals to make are burgers. Who doesn’t love a good burger, especially when it involves roasted garlic and feta? Seriously. I recommend making up a big batch of these burgers and freezing in a ziploc bag or container in between parchment paper to prevent them from sticking together. After trying these burgers, you’ll never want Mickey D’s again!
9. Curried Pumpkin Chicken Soup
Have some leftover pumpkin puree kicking around? It makes the perfect nutrient-packed base for this curried pumpkin chicken soup. Once again, this meal takes less than 30 minutes to prepare, so it’s the perfect easy meal to have in your freezer meal repertoire.
10. Lemon Falafel Burgers
We mentioned lemon and we mentioned burgers, but have you ever tried the two combined into one delicious falafel patty? This burger is the ultimate way to get your protein and iron if you’re not feeling the meat!
