Prep Time 20 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 15 fresh strawberries
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

Instructions

To Make Strawberry Hearts

  • Wash the strawberries and thoroughly pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • Using a small, sharp knife, remove the stem from the top of the strawberry.
  • Place the strawberry stem-side down on a cutting board and slice the strawberry in half lengthwise.
  • Place the strawberry half, with the flat sliced side down, on a cutting board.
  • Cut a small V-shape at the top center of each strawberry half to resemble a heart.
  • Perfect the heart shape by trimming the tops and sides of the strawberry heart with the knife, if necessary.

To Make Chocolate Covered Strawberry Hearts

  • Carefully insert a wooden stick at the bottom of each strawberry heart.
  • Add chocolate chips and coconut oil to a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave in 30 seconds intervals, until chocolate is melted and smooth, stirring in between each interval.
  • Use the stick to dip the top of each strawberry heart into the melted chocolate. Allow the strawberries to dry upright or place them flat side down on a parchment paper lined baking sheet until the chocolate firms up. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Thoroughly dry the strawberries before dipping them in the melted chocolate, otherwise the melted chocolate won’t adhere properly.
  • If the melted chocolate starts to thicken and is not coating the strawberries as well, pop it back into the microwave for 20-30 more seconds to make it smooth again.
  • These strawberry hearts are best served fresh since the strawberries start to lose their freshness if sitting for too long.
  • A foam floral foam block works perfectly when allowing the chocolate on the strawberries to set, but you can also use a cake pop stand. You can find a foam floral block at your local craft store or on Amazon. If you don’t own these supplies, you can line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the strawberry hearts on there to dry instead.
