Prep Time 10 minutes

Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups tomato sauce (not tomato paste)
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons regular molasses (not blackstrap)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke
  • 2 teaspoons tamari or coconut aminos
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon regular American chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine salt

Instructions

  • Add all of the ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
  • Pour the blended mixture into a pot and set it over medium heat. Once it starts to simmer, reduce the heat to low and let it gently simmer for 10-15 minutes, whisking every few minutes so the spices cook through and everything warms up nicely. Remove from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes - it'll thicken up a bit as it cools.
  • This BBQ sauce is tasty right away, but the flavors really deepen and come together after chilling overnight.

Notes

  • The nutritional information is based on about 2 tablespoons of BBQ sauce.
